Overview

The Church of Saint Nicholas of the Roof is a small, picturesque chapel located in the village of Kakopetria in Cyprus. Built in the 11th century, it is one of the oldest and most well-preserved examples of Byzantine architecture on the island. The church derives its name from the distinctive roof structure, which features a wooden frame covered in tiles that slope down to the ground on all four sides. Inside, visitors can admire an array of stunning frescoes that date back to the 13th century. These include depictions of saints and biblical scenes, as well as intricate geometric designs and floral motifs.
